Painting the Dining Room

We decided to paint the dining room... OK "I" decided.... Memorial Day Weekend. In between calls from work and a trip to the "Ranch" (where the rigs are at here in Fort Stockton)... A one day project ended up being a 3 day event.
This was a lot of work in the end, but had Too much fun when it was said and done.

Brenton could not resist getting covered from head to toe. We laughed so hard...

Even Lola had a hand in it!

Now it feels more comfortable and enviting!

Carnival 2010

We had fun at this years carnival but not near as much fun since Shelly was in Dallas. Krissy and Kaly came down to help out since I was still limited on what I can do with my hand since the surgery and the fact that my work schedule conflicts with the kid's.

Brenton and Kaly had a ball but were only allowed to ride 3 of the 20 rides because they weren't tall enough. They couldn't even go down the slide... Wondering what that was all about since last year they got to ride several and were much smaller then.... O'well. Here are some of the pics.
Too fun!

OK, I'm board!

Girl Scouts in Fort Stockton Plant Gardens for Local Hospital Auxiliary

On April 6, 2010, several of the local Girl Scout Troops volunteered a few hours to the Pecos County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Each troop, from the Brownies to the Juniors, had a designated area where they put in plants, flowers, mulch and rocks in the newly built Memorial Garden on the South side of Pecos County Memorial Hospital.

"After moving in to the new Pecos County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop and Pantry in 2001, members of the auxiliary began discussing the possibility of developing a memorial garden outside the window adjacent to the gift shop in memory of past members." From the Fort Stockton Pioneer

After many years of fundraisers and donations the project is due for completion in the next few months. These Girl Scouts have graciously agreed to help maintain the gardens in efforts to help "focus on developing knowledge about the West Texas ecosystem, a concern for conservation through critical thinking skills, provide new skills in wild-scaping, plant and wildlife identification along with the historical and cultural heritage of Fort Stockton."

Easter Weekend 2010

This was a great weekend!
But needed to get a few things done before the day of Egg hunting and relaxation....
Since my hand was in a splint and mowing the yard was not something I could do, I convinced my daughter it was time she learned how to do it. (He he he!)
*Note: Tyla stated she never wanted to do this again. Dang.... I thought I was gonna have some help this summer...........O'well...

Not a bad job at all! Great work guys!

Then the kids decided that they needed to roast marshmellows!

Time to color Eggs....!

And then we had to blow bubbles!

Off to watch Alice In Wonderland At Stockton's

Great movie!

Easter Morning....

Sock'em Bop'em!

What's in this one?

Now time to play in the sprinklers!

Miss Priss and More Bubbles!

My kids version a water gun fight!
(Couple of goofballs if you ask me)
And what a way to wrap up a beautiful day...
a couple of games of Wii Bowling!

Only Being Able to Use One Hand Is For The Birds

Had surgery on my right hand yesterday. Carpel Tunnel Release. All is good except I can't use it at all right now. Some pain but not unbearable. Originally, they said that i would be in a cast but final decision was just a splint. I will be able to take it off and shower a little later today, so thats a good thing.
I was really wondering how I would be able to function but surprisingly doing quite well. Slept decent, but was quite uncomfortable come 7:00 this morning so i didn't get to sleep in. I decided to try and check email this morning and after changing the mouse settings to accommodate my left hand, I was able to get it down. A little cumbersome but seems to be working. I am quite amazed at how well I can type with one hand. I have to look at the keyboard while i type (which I normally don't do) but am doing good.
I have really only had 24 hrs to get used to this but have realized that i have taken a lot for granted. just putting on my jeans this morning was a chore. Try brushing your teeth with your left hand (or your right for all you lefty's out there). For me, i had to think about it.... seriously... was really slow going.... ohh, putting deodorant on is just as tough. Gonna shave here in a little bit, not sure how thats gonna go...

10 Reasons to Dump Daylight Saving Time

10 Reasons to Dump Daylight Saving Time
1) Daylight Saving Time (DST) was sold as an energy-saving measure. But it doesn’t save energy. The results of a natural experiment in Indiana (where the state was moved onto DST by a change in the law in 2006) showed that DST actually increased residential energy demand by 1% overall — and by 2%-4% in October.

2) You think DST is something we do for farmers? From the same paper: “A common misperception is that DST is an agricultural policy. Farmers have historically been one of the most organized groups against the practice of DST, as it requires them to work in morning darkness for an extra hour in order to coordinate with the timing of markets.”

3) Here’s an easy one: time wasted setting clocks backward and forward.

4) Another easy one: appointments missed because of time-change confusion.

5) When the clocks are set ahead in the Spring, it causes more car accidents.

6) Also due to the shift back to DST, workplace injuries rise, likely due to employees’ lack of sleep. According to one study of the number of injuries reported to the Mine Safety and Health Administration from 1983 to 2006: “there were 3.6 more injuries on the Mondays following the switch to daylight saving time compared to other days, and 2,649 more days of work were lost as a result of those injuries.”

7) The clocks being set ahead in Spring also interrupts our natural adjustment to changing sunrises, with possible impact on our long-term health.
It sucks.

Below the fold, one way DST is good…
Getting more light in the morning reduces winter depression. But we could combat the morning darkness with some simple tricks, such as using a “dawn simulator” or setting a bedside lamp on a timer for 20 minutes before our alarm clocks.
